Willy Caballero has insisted that he has no intention of settling for a place on the bench at Manchester City.
Manuel Pellegrini signed the Argentine from Malaga as a replacement for back-up goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon, who recently joined Sunderland, but Caballero is confident of putting pressure on Joe Hart this season.
"I know the situation now but I will fight to play. The decision will be down to the coach, the boss. I have trained well and I will fight," the 32-year-old told members of the media.
"I know my position, but I want to try hard to fight for this position. Joe is a fantastic goalkeeper, but I've come to play. I want to try and take my opportunity.
"It will be difficult yes, but City are a big club and it's a big opportunity. I want to try in every way I can to play."
Caballero started, before later being replaced by Hart, in City's defeat on penalties to Liverpool on their tour of the USA in the early hours of Thursday morning.
