The International Champions Cup, in which the Premier League champions also competed earlier this year in the United States, will also feature an as of yet unconfirmed third side.
City's owners purchased and rebranded Australian A-League outfit Melbourne Heart as Melbourne City earlier this year.
Chief executive Ferran Soriano is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "We are looking forward, once again, to being a part of the tournament. We are particularly excited to be visiting Melbourne, which is home to our sister club."
Liverpool staged a friendly fixture at the MCG last year, which attracted a crowd of 95,000 people.
