Newcastle United have reportedly entered talks with Jason Wilcox around a new Director of Football role at St. James' Park.

The Magpies' new Saudi ownership have created the new role to help carry the club forward, and they are said to have set their sights on the former England winger.

According to the Daily Star, Newcastle have planned another round of talks with Wilcox, who currently works as Manchester City's Academy director.

Following the creation of the new role, Ajax director Marc Overmars and former manager Luis Campos have been linked with a move to St. James' Park, but Wilcox is now regarded as the frontrunner.

With the Magpies searching for a new manager after the departure of Steve Bruce, they are said to be keen for a Director of Football to be in place and play a role in the final appointment in the coming weeks. body check tags ::
