Newcastle United have reportedly considered making a move for Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard in the January transfer window.

Following the Saudi Public Investment Fund's successful takeover of the club at the beginning of October, the Magpies have been linked with a long list of potential new stars, with the new ownership reportedly willing to make waves to quickly bolster the squad.

According to Liam Kennedy, as quoted by Givemesport, the midfielder is a likely target of the Magpies in January, as they look to steer clear of the relegation zone.

When asked about potential signings at St. James' Park, the journalist said: "The likes of Jesse Lingard and others are names that I've heard really strongly mentioned."

Lingard joined West Ham United on loan in January last season, and he helped the Irons earn European qualification with nine goals and five assists in 16 league appearances before returning to the Red Devils.

The Englishman has struggled to nail down a place at Old Trafford this campaign though, having failed to start a league game for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side so far, and he is now said to be open to a move for improved game time in the new year.
