Manchester City defender John Stones says that he has gained a stronger appreciation for playing football after spending over a month on the sidelines through injury.

Manchester City defender John Stones has said that he has started to appreciate playing football much more after returning from a hamstring injury.

On Tuesday night, Stones made his first appearance after a 12-game absence as he helped City record a 3-1 victory over Watford at the Etihad Stadium.

Stones has admitted that he has missed not being involved in City's record-breaking run, but described his teammates as "a joy to watch".

The 23-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "It's been a joy to watch while I've been out. You get a different insight into how we play and see it from a bird's eye view in the stand.

"I think [injury] makes you appreciate it more. You should take advantage of it as much as you can when you are on the pitch and cherish the time you're out there and give your all.

"There's a learning curve while you're injured as well and that's how I try to take it, but to come back and get three goals, three points, is a good way to come back."

Stones has made a total of 19 appearances in all competitions this season.
