West Ham United continued their fine run of form on Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 win at home to champions Manchester City in the Premier League.

The hosts took the lead in the first half through Morgan Amalfitano before Diafra Sakho doubled their advantage on 75 minutes.

City pulled a goal back almost instantly thanks to David Silva's strike, but they were unable to find an equaliser as the Hammers held on for the points.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at the individual performances of those involved at Upton Park.

WEST HAM

Goal

Adrian: West Ham's goalkeeper put in an important display, making a handful of saves in the second half that kept the Hammers on top. (8/10)

Defence

Carl Jenkinson: Made some good marauding runs down the right while also getting back and helping to stifle City's attack. (7/10)

James Collins: Blocked, headed and kicked everything that came at him like any good centre-half should. Made a vital block to deny Yaya Toure late on. (8/10)

Winston Reid: Worked well with Collins at the heart of West Ham's defence. Showed good positional awareness throughout. (8/10)

Aaron Cresswell: Provided the hosts with a decent attacking outlet down the left. Also did the dirty work back in defence. (7/10)

Midfield

Mark Noble: A fairly subdued performance by Noble's standards, but he still kept the Hammers ticking and made his impressive stamina count as the game wore on. (7/10)

Alex Song: Barely put a foot wrong during a superb 90 minutes. Was a nightmare for City as he frequently broke up play and made himself a general nuisance. (9/10)

Morgan Amalfitano: Capped a good showing in the first half by giving West Ham the lead, but his influence waned after the break before he was taken off. (7/10)

Stewart Downing: Not the kind of sparkling performance that we have come to expect of the winger in recent weeks, though he gave the opposition plenty to think about with his clever movement. (7/10)

Attack

Enner Valencia: The striker was a model of energy and invention in attack as he ran the channels, took men on and showed no fear in having a go at goal. (8/10)

Diafra Sakho: Was a real menace throughout, running in and behind the City defence while teaming up well with Valencia to give the champions a headache. (8/10)

Substitutes

Cheikhou Kouyate: Came on with 25 minutes left to shore up West Ham's midfield and did a solid job of it. (7/10)

Carlton Cole: Had a positive impact for his team during the final 15 minutes, providing the hosts with a bigger physical presence up front. (7/10)

Kevin Nolan: Was brought on with just a minute of normal time remaining and struggled to get involved. (6/10)

MAN CITY

Goal

Joe Hart: Pulled off a couple of saves, but did little else during the game. Almost kept out West Ham's second goal, only for the referee to signal that it had crossed the line. (7/10)

Defence

Pablo Zabaleta: Did not get forward as much as he would have liked to. Also afforded West Ham too much space out wide. (6/10)

Vincent Kompany: Got booked for a robust challenge in the first half before letting his temper get the better of him once or twice after the break. Not the Belgian's most authoritative afternoon. (7/10)

Eliaquim Mangala: Looked shaky on a couple of occasions as he failed to deal effectively with the likes of Valencia and Sakho. Has the appearance of someone who is still getting to grips with the pace of the English game. (6/10)

Gael Clichy: Was skinned alive by Valencia in the build-up to West Ham's first goal and his contribution failed to improve after that. (6/10)

Midfield

Jesus Navas: The Spaniard saw plenty of the ball, particularly in the first half, and provided his side with a handful of promising crosses. (7/10)

Yaya Toure: Took the game by the scruff of the next in the second half as City tried to get themselves back into the game. Was unlucky not to find the net with a stinging effort that came back off the post. (7/10)

Fernando: Was unable to have any kind of influence on the game in a key area as Song easily won the duel between the pair. (5/10)

David Silva: Offered the visitors lots of pace, trickery and movement in his trademark roaming role. Took his goal very well indeed, curling a fine finish past Adrian after jinking his way into the West Ham box. (7/10)

Attack

Edin Dzeko: This was almost a non-performance from the Bosnian, who drifted around like an uninterested ghost before he was hauled off on the hour. (5/10)

Sergio Aguero: Often took it upon himself to find the net. Looked dangerous for the most part, running at West Ham and using his bullish strength to worry the hosts. (7/10)

Substitutes

Stevan Jovetic: Showed enthusiasm during the half an hour that he was on the pitch. Forced a good save from Adrian late on as the champions threw everything at West Ham. (6/10)

James Milner: Gave the visitors some much-needed belligerence in midfield after replacing the ineffective Fernando with 12 minutes to play. (7/10)

Aleksandar Kolarov: Did little of note when he was introduced at the same time as Milner. (5/10)
