Kolo Toure says that UEFA need to issue CSKA Moscow with tough sanctions after their fans targeted his brother Yaya Toure with 'monkey chants' during Manchester City's 2-1 win in Russia.

Kolo Toure has urged UEFA to ban CSKA Moscow from European football after his brother Yaya Toure was the target of racist abuse during Manchester City's Champions League match in the Russian capital.

The Liverpool defender said that he is "furious" with events at Arena Khimki, and believes that it is time UEFA made a statement if they want to stamp out racism in football.

"I am furious," he told BBC Sport. "I am disappointed at what happened. I was disappointed about what the fans did. UEFA have to give out a big sanction otherwise players will be put in the situation again. They need to be as strong as possible.

"Maybe ban this team for a couple of years or a couple of months. The clubs say they have educated the fans but it happens all the time.

"I think it's not just in Eastern Europe we can get. It's stupid people in football and I don't know why it doesn't happen in other sports, just in football. UEFA have to take action otherwise it will continue happening."

Manuel Pellegrini's men won 2-1 thanks to a brace from Sergio Aguero.
