Robert Huth scores twice as Leicester City extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to six points by thrashing their nearest rivals Manchester City 3-1.

Leicester City have earned arguably the biggest win of their dream season in the Premier League by hammering title favourites Manchester City 3-1 away at the Etihad Stadium.

Leicester, who have gone six points clear for the time being at the top of the table, wasted no time in proving that they were up to the challenge of facing their nearest rivals and took the lead after just two minutes.

Riyad Mahrez won a free kick on the right edge of the penalty area and swung over the resulting set piece for Robert Huth to bundle it home via a deflection off Martin Demichelis.

Just five minutes later it was almost two as the league's top scorer Jamie Vardy beat the offside trap to collect a ball over the top from Marc Albrighton before he was denied by onrushing England teammate Joe Hart.

Hart was called into action again soon after, rushing out to meet Danny Drinkwater and deny the midfielder from a tight angle.

David Silva shot wide at the other end, but Leicester were soon threatening again at the other end as Vardy beat Nicolas Otamendi for pace before his low cross was stabbed wide by strike partner Shinji Okazaki.

After scoring the opener, Huth made two key clearances in his own area to first flick Aleksandar Kolarov's goalbound free kick over the top before diverting a cross destined for the unmarked Sergio Aguero away from danger.

City were only one down at half time, but, as in the first half, Leicester found the net inside three minutes upon the resumption as N'Golo Kante did well to retain possession in midfield before feeding Mahrez, who surged forward and beat Nicolas Otamendi with a step-over before firing past Hart with his weaker right foot.

Okazaki went close to making it three before City had their best moment of the match when substitute Fernando met a corner from Silva, only to be denied by Kasper Schmeichel's instinctive save.

The Foxes made it three on the hour mark and once again it was Huth on target, rising well at the back post to meet Christian Fuchs's corner and heading back across goal into the far corner.

Vardy failed to add to his league-leading 18 goals this term, but he did go close on several occasions in the remainder, with Hart denying him once, the side-netting being rippled and another header flashing wide.

City did score a late consolation in the 87th minute when Aguero, who looked offside, met a cross from Premier League debutant Bersant Celina to score his 13th goal in 11 games.

Victory takes Leicester six clear of City in second, although the gap will be cut to five should either Tottenham Hotspur or Arsenal win this weekend.
