Pep Guardiola: 'Premier League tougher to win than Champions League'

Pep Guardiola talks up Manchester City's achievements in the Premier League this season and insists that it is a tougher competition to win than the Champions League.

Pep Guardiola has insisted that winning the Premier League title with Manchester City will mean more to him than success in the Champions League.

The Citizens are now just one win away from sealing a third Prem crown in seven seasons following Saturday evening's 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

City's season was at risk of derailing after suffering a 5-1 aggregate defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League earlier this week, but Guardiola believes that lifting the title will more than make up for the disappointment of crashing out of Europe.

"If you have now 87 points, five games left, it's because we did outstanding when people said it was a big failure what happened last week," he told reporters after the win at Wembley Stadium.

"They don't understand absolutely anything about football. The Champions League is seven games, you can win the Champions League but the league is every three days in the same month. I'm sorry but it's much more important what these guys have done the whole season."

City will be crowned champions if Manchester United slip up against West Bromwich Albion or Bournemouth in their next two matches.
