Cardiff City are reportedly in talks to sign Manchester City left-back Josh Wilson-Esbrand on loan.

The 21-year-old is currently on loan at Ligue 1 outfit Reims where he has made 11 top-flight appearances, scoring once and providing one assist.

However, Wilson-Esbrand has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot under manager Will Still and has recently been tasked to play out of position in centre-midfield.

According to Football Insider, Man City are ready to terminate Wilson-Esbrand's loan deal to allow him to join Cardiff on a temporary basis for the rest of the season.

A separate report from BBC Sport claims that Cardiff are poised to sign the defender before the winter window closes at 11pm.

Prior to joining Reims, Wilson-Esbrand spent the second half of the 2022-23 campaign on loan at Championship club Coventry City, where he made 14 appearances.

The London-born left-back began his career in West Ham United's academy before moving to Man City in 2019.

Wilson-Esbrand won the Premier League 2 title with the Citizens' Under-20s side in the 2021-22 season before making three senior appearances under manager Pep Guardiola, including two substitute outings in the Champions League group stage last season.

The left-back will hope to feature regularly during the second half of the season if he completes a loan move to Cardiff, who currently sit 14th in the Championship table, seven points behind the playoffs.
