Manchester City forward Erling Haaland is reportedly expected to sign a lucrative contract extension with the Premier League champions.
Haaland has showcased his importance to Man City in the opening stages of the new season, having racked up seven goals in the first three Premier League matches.
The Norwegian got on the scoresheet in a 2-0 win over Chelsea, before he scored a hat-trick in a 4-1 home win over newly-promoted Ipswich Town.
Haaland followed that impressive display with another match-winning performance in last Saturday's clash with West Ham United, scoring another hat-trick to fire his side to a 3-1 victory at the London Stadium.
The 24-year-old already appears to be on his way to winning a third consecutive Golden Boot and his relentless goalscoring makes him one of the best forwards in the world.
Haaland on verge of signing new contract
Although Haaland has a contract until June 2027, Man City are seemingly keen to reward the striker with an improved deal as they look to ward off interest from his potential suitors.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, Haaland is close to signing a new bumper contract to commit his future to Pep Guardiola's side.
The report claims that Man City's hierarchy have held several meetings with the player's agent Rafaela Pimenta over a new deal.
Haaland is set to agree a deal that will take him past his Man City teammate Kevin De Bruyne as the highest-paid player in the Premier League through his basic salary.
Haaland will still control future
While Haaland is set to extend his stay with Man City, there is a belief that the new deal will contain a release clause which will give the player some control over his career.
Spanish giants Real Madrid have previously been linked with the Norway international and may decide to pursue a move in the future.
However, Los Blancos do not currently view Haaland as a priority target after bolstering their forward line with the addition of Kylian Mbappe in the summer.
Haaland is currently away with his international side and played the duration of Friday's goalless draw with Kazakhstan in the UEFA Nations League.
The forward is likely to be involved in Monday's home clash with Austria, before he turns his focus to Man City's Premier League home game against Brentford. body check tags ::
