Manchester City defender Eric Garcia has said that he hopes to stay at the club next season, despite having turned down a new contract at the Etihad Stadium.
The 19-year-old's current deal expires next summer and his refusal to agree an extension had prompted talk of a move away.
A return to Barcelona, where Garcia came through the academy before joining Man City, has been touted, but the Spaniard insists that he wants to play under Pep Guardiola again in the 2020-21 campaign.
"I told City that I was not renewing but I still have one season left with them and I hope to return," he told reporters while on international duty with Spain.
"My goal is to train and play as much as possible to show here and in Manchester that the coach can count on me. What comes after is something that cannot be controlled. I focus on what I can control."
Garcia enjoyed a breakthrough season last term, making 20 first-team appearances across all competitions.
