Everton manager Roberto Martinez is reportedly plotting a move to bring Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell back to Goodison Park, two years after leaving the Merseyside club.
The Liverpool Echo claims that the Premier League champions are willing to offer Rodwell as part of a deal to lure Ross Barkley to the Etihad Stadium this summer.
However, Martinez is said to be keen to rebuff any deal for the 20-year-old England international and will reward Barkley with a new contract.
The Spaniard is thought to be considering a move for Rodwell in any case as he looks to add depth to his squad ahead of their forthcoming Europa League campaign.
Rodwell is rumoured to be surplus to requirements at the Etihad, having made just seven Premier League starts since leaving the Toffees in 2012.
