Manchester City are reportedly exploring the idea of a new contract for veteran midfielder Fernandinho.
The Brazil international has often played second fiddle to Rodri this season, and his Etihad deal is due to expire at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.
However, Fernandinho put in a stellar display against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday evening - on what was his 36th birthday - and Pep Guardiola is said to be impressed with his captain's leadership.
According to the Daily Mail, Fernandinho could still decide to pen fresh terms with the Premier League champions-elect, and the club may also look to keep him around when he hangs up his boots.
The former Shakhtar Donetsk lynchpin has totalled 347 appearances for the club since 2013, although he has started just 11 Premier League matches this season.
Should Fernandinho opt against extending his Man City deal beyond the summer, Guardiola could supposedly try to strike a deal for West Ham United's Declan Rice as a replacement. body check tags ::
