Ilkay Gundogan has suggested that his future at Manchester City depends on whether Pep Guardiola signs a new contract with the Premier League champions.

Guardiola's current deal at Etihad Stadium is due to expire at the end of the season, and there is currently uncertainty surrounding his future in Manchester.

According to the Daily Mail, the Spaniard will decide over the break for the 2022 World Cup whether he will walk away next summer or pen another contract.

Gundogan, meanwhile, also only has a deal with the Citizens until next June, and there has been widespread speculation surrounding his future over the last few weeks.

Galatasaray are believed to be exploring the possibility of signing the Germany international, while there has also been talk of interest from Barcelona.

Gundogan has said that he is "quite calm" regarding his situation and also hinted that whether he stays at the club will depend on Guardiola's future.

"I'm quite calm, confident with my situation and happy where I am. I don't feel there is a decision to take right now. It's quite normal to have rumours when you're in this situation," Gundogan told reporters.

"Also, the manager's contract is expiring in the summer, too, so I don't really know what's going to happen with him - no-one really knows.

"If you look back to my career then you will see everywhere I was, it was because of the manager that was there."

Gundogan made the move to Man City from Borussia Dortmund in 2016, and he has now represented the club on 273 occasions in all competitions, contributing 51 goals and 35 assists.

The 32-year-old has again been an important player for the Citizens this season, making 20 appearances in all competitions, contributing two goals and two assists in the process.

Gundogan has won four Premier League titles, one FA Cup, four EFL Cups and two Community Shields during his time in Manchester, in addition to reaching the 2020-21 Champions League final.

The midfielder played the full 90 minutes of Saturday's Premier League clash with Brentford, which ended in a 2-1 victory for the Bees courtesy of a double from Ivan Toney.

The defeat to Thomas Frank's side has left Man City in second position in the Premier League table, five points behind leaders Arsenal on the same number of matches (14). body check tags ::
