Manchester City will reportedly launch a bid for Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu in an attempt to shore up their shaky defence.
The Premier League champions fell 11 points behind leaders Liverpool on Saturday following a 2-2 draw with Newcastle United that saw the club give away a lead in the 88th minute.
City, who are also without key defender Aymeric Laporte due to a long-term injury, have picked up criticism for failing to replace Vincent Kompany over the summer transfer window.
According to The Times, Pep Guardiola views the defender as an ideal replacement for City's former captain.
The Catalan, despite City's stunted 2019-20 campaign, is said to be likely to stay at the Etihad next summer and oversee the rebuilding of his squad, with David Silva and Sergio Aguero serving as two other players who require long-term replacements.
However, Leicester are highly unlikely to dispense with Soyuncu, who has been one of Leicester's best performers since he was signed as Harry Maguire's replacement in August.
