Manchester City have signed Spanish midfielder Javi Garcia from Benfica on the final day of the summer transfer window.
Neither the length of the contract nor the transfer fee has been disclosed, although reports suggest that City had to pay an initial £16m for the 25-year-old.
Garcia joined Benfica from Real Madrid in 2009 and established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe at the Portuguese club.
The Spain international has been handed the number 14 shirt at City for the 2012-13 season.
Garcia was the fifth player that City signed on transfer deadline day after Scott Sinclair, Maicon, Matija Nastasic and Richard Wright.
