Newcastle United have reportedly made an ambitious bid to sign Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich.
The Germany international has spent the majority of his career in Bavaria after joining Bayern from RB Leipzig in 2015.
Kimmich has enjoyed significant success during his time with the club, having won eight Bundesliga titles, six German Super Cups, three DFB-Pokal trophies, a Champions League, a UEFA Super Cup and a Club World Cup.
While he is regarded as one of the key members of the Bayern squad, his future is currently the subject of much speculation.
With his contract set to expire in the summer of 2025, there has been a suggestion that Kimmich is considering a fresh challenge.
Barcelona are said to be showing an interest alongside reigning European champions Manchester City, who could wait until the end of the season to pursue a transfer.
According to Bild, Newcastle are the latest club to show an interest, having made an enquiry over the player's availability.
The Magpies are keen to bolster their midfield options, with Joelinton at risk of missing the rest of the season due to a serious groin injury.
Joe Willock and Elliot Anderson are also on the sidelines, while Sandro Tonali is serving a ban for breaching betting regulations when he was an AC Milan player.
Although Newcastle are keen to bring in a new midfielder this month, Kimmich has no intention of leaving Bayern during the January window.
However, the Magpies could decide to renew their interest at the end of the season if Kimmich fails to sign a new deal with Thomas Tuchel's side.
There is a belief that the German champions will listen to offers if the player enters the final 12 months of his contract, as they look to avoid running the risk of him leaving on a free transfer in 2025.
Kimmich, who has made 21 competitive appearances this season, has insisted he is concentrating on his Bayern career despite the recent speculation surrounding his future.
