AS Monaco have reportedly been in talks with Manchester City over the possible signing of captain Vincent Kompany in January.
The Ligue 1 outfit are believed to have tried to buy the Belgian centre-back during the summer transfer window, but failed in their attempts to prise him away from the Etihad Stadium.
Monaco's defensive pairing of experienced duo Eric Abidal and Ricardo Carvalho has guided the club to second in the French top tier so far this season, but manager Claudio Ranieri is eager to bolster his options in that position at the start of the New Year.
According to French publication L'Equipe, Monaco have already initiated talks with City over a potential deal in January before Kompany's value increases further.
Kompany has recently recovered from groin and hamstring injuries.
