Manchester City have made an "astonishing" wage offer to Kevin De Bruyne, Wolfsburg's director of sport Klaus Allofs has claimed.
The 24-year-old winger, who used to play for Chelsea, has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium in recent months.
Allofs is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "He's had an astonishing, astonishing offer from City and we can't compete with that. I would prefer to keep him, not to get the money, but the money now is really the issue."
Wolfsburg manager Dieter Hecking has reportedly decided against considering De Bruyne for selection ahead of his side's meeting with Schalke 04 on Friday.
