Jose Mourinho has hinted that he will give Luke Shaw a chance to impress in Manchester United's midweek meeting with CSKA Moscow in the Champions League.
The 22-year-old has struggled to establish himself under Mourinho over the last 18 months, making his only two appearances this season from the bench in the EFL Cup.
Shaw has been linked with a January exit from Old Trafford to kickstart his career elsewhere, with Newcastle United understood to have shown an interest, but the England international is now in line for a rare start against CSKA on Tuesday evening.
Asked about the chances of an inclusion from the off, Mourinho told reporters: "I'd have to think. I'm going to make a few but not too many changes. We didn't qualify yet and I need to keep a certain balance in the team.
"But when you speak about Luke Shaw, you are right. He's working to have an opportunity and sooner or later, the opportunity will arrive, because he deserves that opportunity. Selected for tomorrow, yes, for sure. To start or to be on the bench, I cannot answer."
Shaw has made 49 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions since making a £27m switch from Southampton in 2015.
