Manchester United manager David Moyes has declared that Wayne Rooney has a strong chance of returning from injury to play against Sunderland this weekend.
Rooney was left out of tonight's 1-1 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk as a precaution with a shin injury, restricted to a view from the stands as United held on for a point in Ukraine.
Moyes remains hopeful that Rooney will recover in time to face Sunderland on Saturday night, revealing that he suffered a swollen shin in training yesterday.
When asked if Rooney will feature this weekend Moyes told BBC Sport: "I hope so, it's not that serious.
"He took a clash of shins with Danny Welbeck and it's just swollen up."
In Rooney's absence Moyes went with Robin van Persie in attack, but it was Welbeck who broke the deadlock for United form an advanced wide position.
