UEFA have confirmed that they have begun disciplinary proceedings against Sir Alex Ferguson following his refusal to speak to the media last night.
The Manchester United manager was said to be too "distraught" to fulfill his press obligations after his side was knocked out of the Champions League courtesy of a 2-1 defeat at home to Real Madrid.
Ferguson had been particularly disappointed with the decision of Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakir to send off United winger Nani in the 58th minute following a challenge with Madrid full-back Alvaro Arbeloa.
That had resulted in the Scottish boss sending his assistant Mike Phelan to meet with the press - something that Europe's governing body have insisted was wrong of Ferguson.
As well an investigation against Ferguson, UEFA have also confirmed that they intend to look into the conduct of the United players following Nani's dismissal.
