Denis Irwin
The majority of the players in this list were brought to the club by Sir Alex Ferguson, so it speaks volumes for Denis Irwin that the former Manchester United boss regards him among his greatest ever signings.
Having joined United from Oldham Athletic for just £625,000 in 1990, Irwin went on to make 529 appearances for the club across all competitions, almost 300 of which came in the Premier League.
A consummate professional capable of playing in either full-back role, Irwin was also something of a dead-ball specialist and most of his 33 goals for United came from a set piece situation.
Alongside Roy Keane, Irwin is the most decorated Irish footballer of all time having won seven Premier League titles, three FA Cups, the League Cup and the Champions League among his 20 trophies from his time at Old Trafford.
The Republic of Ireland international made 48 appearances during United's treble-winning season in 1999 and continued as a valued member of the team until he left for Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2002, 12 years after joining United.
