England attacking duo 'in danger of missing out on Euro 2024'

Manchester City playmaker Jack Grealish and Manchester City forward Marcus Rashford are allegedly in danger of missing out on representing England at Euro 2024.

Manchester City winger Jack Grealish and Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford are reportedly not guaranteed to represent England at Euro 2024.

Over the past week, Gareth Southgate has been overseeing the final two Three Lions fixtures ahead of selecting his squad for the next major tournament.

On Saturday, England succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Brazil at Wembley Stadium, failing to overly impress in the final third before conceding a late winner to Endrick.

Three days later, a last-gasp Jude Bellingham goal earned England a 2-2 draw against Belgium in a game where they generally improved in attack.

In the second game, Southgate turned to the likes of James Maddison, Anthony Gordon and Jarrod Bowen when his side required an equaliser, partly due to wanting to give opportunities to some fringe players to make an impression.

Maddison was able to do just that, providing a clever assist for Bellingham's leveller, yet it was noticeable that Rashford was not called upon by Southgate during the latter stages.

Rashford had also only appeared for 15 minutes against Brazil in the preceding game, raising question marks over where the versatile forward now lies in the pecking order.

According to The Mirror, the 26-year-old is not guaranteed a place in the 23-player squad for the upcoming tournament in Germany.

As well as other players seemingly being preferred in one of his various positions, Rashford has only scored eight goals from 35 appearances in all competitions during 2023-24.

While Rashford was present in the latest squad, Grealish was not, a consequence of a groin injury that he sustained in the FA Cup tie against Luton Town on February 27.

The setback was the latest of several for Grealish throughout this campaign, whether that be through injury or finding himself among the replacements at the Etihad Stadium.

Although Grealish still has 20 starts and seven substitute outings to his name this campaign, just seven starts have been made in the Premier League, something which could count against him when Southgate has to reduce his options.

Prior to the recent games, Southgate told reporters that Grealish "was definitely not out of the question", yet it is suggested that he may have dropped down the pecking order ahead of Southgate's final selection.

The squad for the Euros will be named prior to friendlies with Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iceland, with the likelihood being that a number of reserves will also be involved with the group. body check tags ::
