Porto vs. Man United: Five unwanted stats Erik ten Hag will not want to see after 3-3 draw

Five more unwanted stats rear their head as Manchester United drop more points from a winning position away to Porto in the Europa League.

More unwanted stats have piled up for under-pressure Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, following their 3-3 draw away to Porto in the Europa League tonight.

It initially appeared as though the Red Devils were on course to win for the first time in four matches, as they raced into an early 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund.

However, before the interval, Porto fought back, scoring twice in seven minutes to bring themselves level at 2-2, before Samu Omorodion netted his second early in the second half to complete an astonishing turnaround.

Harry Maguire headed home an injury-time equaliser after Bruno Fernandes had been sent off for the second game running, potentially buying Ten Hag slightly more time with a second draw from two games in the Europa League.

Ten Hag's Man United ship three goals once again

Unsurprisingly, in the aftermath of the 3-3 draw, numerous statistics have emerged illustrating Man United's difficulties under Ten Hag.

After seeing Tottenham Hotspur put three past United at Old Trafford over the weekend, and Porto doing the same this evening, no Premier League club has conceded three or more goals as often as the Red Devils since Ten Hag's appointment.

This was the 24th time that has happened in just over two years since the manager's arrival, doing so roughly once every five games across Ten Hag's 124 in charge.

European football has proved very difficult for the Dutchman, with this being the fourth straight away game on the continent where they have let in three or more, also doing so in all three of their Champions League group games last season.

Bayern Munich and Copenhagen both put four beyond a beleaguered United, while Galatasaray also scored three in Istanbul, as Ten Hag's side finished bottom of the section.

Ten Hag's European record continues to worsen

One of the most remarkable statistics that has risen its head in the aftermath of the clash at the Dragao, is that Man United have scored two or more goals in five European matches since the start of last season, but won none of them.

The three aforementioned Champions League away games saw them score three goals in each, but take just one point, while they were also beaten 3-2 at home to Galatasaray in the same campaign.

Squandering leads is becoming commonplace for the Red Devils, and no team in any competition of European football have dropped as many points as them since the start of last season - 12.

Going back slightly further, United have only won one of their last 10 games in Europe under Ten Hag, which was a 1-0 success over Copenhagen last season, when Andre Onana needed to save an injury-time penalty to get them over the line.

With the pressure mounting heavily, tightening up defensively will be of utmost importance when United face Aston Villa at the weekend, otherwise Ten Hag's job really will be hanging in the balance. body check tags ::
