Manchester United's Louis van Gaal: 'Wayne Rooney motivated to win FA Cup'

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal insists that Wayne Rooney is "very motivated" to lift the FA Cup ahead of tonight's quarter-final against Arsenal.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has insisted that Wayne Rooney is determined to win the FA Cup this season after 12 failed attempts in his career.

The England and United captain is expected to line up for the Red Devils when they take on Premier League rivals Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the tournament at Old Trafford this evening.

"I don't know how Rooney will motivate the dressing room but I know he will because he is very motivated as a captain - not just to win a trophy but to win the FA Cup because he has not won it before," The Express quotes Van Gaal as saying.

"Winning your first trophy as a captain or manager is very important. You can see how motivated Rooney is when you look at the last minute of our game at Newcastle.

"He was running and chasing for a lost ball and it led to our winner. That was fantastic. Every human being has their own identity and character but that summed up Wayne."

In their last 12 meetings, Arsenal have secured just one victory over United.
