Cristiano Ronaldo record vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Sports Mole looks at Cristiano Ronaldo's record against Tottenham Hotspur ahead of Manchester United's Premier League clash with Antonio Conte's side.

Cristiano Ronaldo will be hoping to keep his starting spot at the tip of the Manchester United attack for Wednesday's Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

The 37-year-old started for just the second time in the league this season on Sunday afternoon, with the Red Devils welcoming Newcastle United to Old Trafford.

However, it proved to be a frustrating match for Ronaldo, who was replaced in the 72nd minute of the contest, which finished 0-0.

The Portugal international has only scored twice in 12 appearances for Man United in all competitions this term, but he has an excellent record against Tottenham, which could lead to Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag again naming him in the starting XI at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

With that in mind, Sports Mole looks at how Ronaldo has performed against Spurs.

Ronaldo has faced Tottenham on 20 occasions during his professional career, boasting a record of 14 wins, five draws and one defeat against them, which includes games for both Man United and Real Madrid.

The Portuguese, meanwhile, has scored 14 goals and registered five assists in fixtures with the North London club.

In the Premier League, he has a record of nine wins and four draws against them, scoring eight goals and registering five assists, including four goals and an assist last term.

Indeed, Ronaldo was on the scoresheet in a 3-0 Man United success at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the first half of the 2021-22 campaign before hitting a hat trick in the reverse game at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils recording a 3-2 victory.

The former Sporting Lisbon youngster has also taken on Spurs on three occasions in the English domestic cup competitions, scoring twice against them in the fourth round of the 2007-08 FA Cup, in addition to helping his side progress with a 2-1 victory in the fourth round one year later.

Ronaldo also helped Man United beat Spurs on penalties in the final of the 2008-09 EFL Cup final, with the Portuguese enjoying a lot of success against the capital outfit.

All four of his Champions League appearances against Tottenham came during his time at Real Madrid, and he scored in all four matches.

Indeed, Ronaldo helped Los Blancos run out 5-0 aggregate winners in the quarter-finals of the 2010-11 competition, scoring in both legs, including a 4-0 success at Bernabeu, while he netted home and away against Spurs in the group stage of the 2017-18 competition.

The forward's only defeat against Spurs came in 2017, when Real Madrid were beaten 3-1 by Tottenham at Wembley, with Dele Alli scoring a brace and Christian Eriksen also registering for the English side.
