Cristiano Ronaldo's record vs. Chelsea

Sports Mole looks at Cristiano Ronaldo's record against Chelsea ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash.

Cristiano Ronaldo will again lead the Manchester United line when the Red Devils make the trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The 36-year-old has been in excellent scoring form for the English giants since returning over the summer, finding the back of the net on 10 occasions in 14 appearances.

Ronaldo was again on the scoresheet against Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday, while he has managed four goals in nine Premier League outings in his second spell with Man United.

The Portugal international will now be looking to get the better of the strongest defence in the Premier League this season, with Chelsea conceding just four times in 12 league outings in 2021-22.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how the former Sporting Lisbon youngster has performed against the capital giants in the past.

Ronaldo has faced Chelsea on 15 occasions during his professional career, boasting a record of five wins, four draws and six defeats against them, while he has found the back of the net on only one occasion.

The attacker's only goal against the Blues was a big one, though, as he netted in the 2008 Champions League final, which finished 1-1 before Man United famously triumphed on penalties.

Ronaldo has failed to score in his previous 10 Premier League matches against Chelsea, and the Blues are the team that he has faced on the most occasions without ever registering against in top-flight football.

The Portuguese has won three, drawn three and lost four of his 10 top-flight outings with the capital outfit, registering two assists, which came during the 2005-06 and 2008-09 campaigns.

Ronaldo has also tackled Chelsea in the latter stages of the biggest cup competitions in England, being on the end of a 1-0 loss to the Blues in the 2007 FA Cup final.

The former Sporting Lisbon youngster also played both legs of the 2004-05 League Cup semi-final against the Blues, with Man United suffering a 2-1 aggregate defeat.

Interestingly, Ronaldo never faced Chelsea during his time at Real Madrid, with all of his previous experience against the London club coming during his first spell with the 20-time English champions.

The Portuguese's last outing at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League came in September 2008, when he featured off the bench in a 1-1 draw.

However, he was victorious in his last league appearance against Chelsea, playing the full 90 minutes of a 3-0 success at Old Trafford in January 2009, with Nemanja Vidic, Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov on the scoresheet for the Manchester club.
