How Liverpool could line up against Manchester United

Sports Mole looks at how Liverpool could line up for Sunday's crunch match with fierce rivals Manchester United as they aim to regain top spot in the Premier League.

Liverpool will be looking to take full advantage of their game in hand over title rivals Manchester City when they face their old enemies Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

City are in EFL Cup action to leave Liverpool needing only a point to regain top spot in the Premier League table, although the Reds will know that only victory would be enough to send out a real statement of their title credentials.

United are yet to be beaten in domestic action since they last faced Liverpool, though - a result which brought an end to Jose Mourinho's time at the club and ushered in the so-far successful Solskjaer era.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Jurgen Klopp could line his side up for the all-important crunch match.

Liverpool are able to welcome Virgil van Dijk back into the starting XI after he missed the midweek draw with Bayern Munich due to suspension, while Trent Alexander-Arnold made his return in that match.

There are still problems in defence with the continued absences of Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez, though, which means that Joel Matip is expected to start once again at centre-back.

Klopp's main decisions come in midfield, where the likes of Fabinho and James Milner will be pushing for starts alongside Naby Keita, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum.

Keita appears to have established himself as a regular starter, though, while Henderson and Wijnaldum are among Klopp's most trusted players so it could be an unchanged midfield trio from midweek.

The Liverpool front three has a notoriously poor record against United, with Mohamed Salah in particular having failed to score or assist against them so far, but they are likely to remain unchanged once again.
