Ex-Man United physio Matt Radcliffe: 'No long-term effects for injured Luke Shaw'

Former Manchester United physio Matt Radcliffe says that Luke Shaw's double fracture to his leg will not affect him in the long term.

Former Manchester United physio Matt Radcliffe has claimed that Luke Shaw's long-term career is unlikely to be hampered after he broke his leg in two places during a Champions League game in midweek.

The England international underwent surgery on Tuesday night in Eindhoven after breaking his tibia and fibula.

The injury occurred when PSV Eindhoven's Hector Moreno tackled his opponent in the first half of United's 2-1 defeat in Holland.

Reports have claimed that Shaw will have a second operation today and is expected to be on the sidelines for at least six months.

Radcliffe, who worked with Shaw at Southampton before joining him for a year-long spell at Old Trafford, told ESPN: "Luke has a great family around him and they will be very important in the first few days after this injury. Having the people you know best around you helps to put things into perspective and at the end of the day, this is just a minor blip in Luke's career.

"We are talking here about a kid who is only 20, and the way the medical profession can deal with this kind of major injury now, it shouldn't have any effect on him in the long term."

United are yet to decide when Shaw will return to Manchester from Eindhoven.
