Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been spotted leaving Villa Park in a protective plastic boot after picking up an injury during Sunday's Premier League clash with Aston Villa.
Having scored against Porto in the Europa League on Thursday night, Maguire was brought into the XI for the Premier League clash with Unai Emery's side, but he had to be replaced at the interval due to an injury that he picked up in the latter stages of the first period.
The England international was wearing a protective plastic boot when he left Villa Park on Sunday, fuelling suggestions that he could be set for a spell on the sidelines.
Maguire was not the only Man United player to go off at the interval of the goalless draw, as Noussair Mazraoui was also withdrawn, with Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag confirming issues for both players after the game.
"We have to take them off at half time. Tomorrow we have to see what is the diagnosis on it," Ten Hag told BBC Sport when asked for an update on the defensive duo.
Maguire, Mazraoui suffered injuries against Villa
Maguire has been left out of the England squad for his country's upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Greece and Finland, although he would almost certainly have had to withdraw due to the development.
Mazraoui, meanwhile, was due to represent Morocco against the Central African Republic on October 12 and October 15 respectively, but he may also now miss out for his country.
Victor Lindelof replaced Mazraoui off the bench at Villa Park, while Matthijs de Ligt came on for Maguire, and Man United were able to claim a hard-fought point against Emery's team.
"I think the performance of United was very good. Defending and in possession we controlled the game. It was in the balance. We created chances but not loads. Also Villa didn't create too many chances. It was balanced. We hit the crossbar, they had a shot blocked," Ten Hag added after the clash.
Ten Hag insists Man United are moving "in a good direction"
"We had that resilience, the whole season. We conceded three against Tottenham because we were down to 10 and we still went for the win. But for the rest this is our fourth clean sheet.
"This tells you we are in a good direction. Now also we improve defending counter attacks, and we improve controlling possession. But also we have to improve in the final third.
"First of all Rasmus [Hojlund] is returning. When he is up to full speed he will help us. But also other players have to take responsibility. I am very pleased with the performance of [Marcus] Rashford, twice he came close to goals. [Alejandro] Garnacho has been good all season. But also other players can score, we have to step up in that area."
The result has left Man United in 14th spot in the Premier League table, having picked up only just eight points from their opening seven matches of the 2024-25 campaign. body check tags ::
