Manchester United centre-back Leny Yoro will reportedly be sidelined for his new side's first three matches of the 2024-25 Premier League campaign due to the issue that he picked up against Arsenal on Saturday night.
The big-money arrival from Lille had to be substituted in the latter stages of the first period against the Gunners after appearing to damage his ankle.
Yoro has since been seen with his left foot in a protective boot, fuelling suggestions that the 18-year-old had suffered a serious problem during the pre-season clash.
Man United are yet to provide an official update when it comes to the centre-back, who made his debut as a starter against Rangers earlier this month, just two days after his switch from Lille was confirmed.
However, according to The Sun, Yoro has suffered a metatarsal injury which will rule him out of the team's first three league games of 2024-25.
Which matches will Yoro miss for Man United?
The Frenchman is therefore set to be sidelined for the Premier League fixtures with Fulham, Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool, with his return potentially coming against Southampton on September 14.
Yoro will also be absent for the Community Shield against Manchester City on August 10, in addition to Man United's final two games of their pre-season tour of the United States.
Man United are back in action against Real Betis on Wednesday evening before rounding off their preparations for the new campaign against Liverpool on August 3.
The Red Devils had severe fitness problems during the 2023-24 campaign and have already been struck by a huge blow during pre-season.
Rasmus Hojlund was also substituted in the early stages of the clash with Arsenal due to an apparent hamstring issue, but there is believed to be a chance that the Denmark international could face Liverpool on Saturday night.
What does Yoro's injury mean for Man United?
Man United have not ruled out signing another centre-back this summer, and Matthijs de Ligt appears to be their leading target.
De Ligt has been left out of the Bayern Munich squad for their pre-season trip to South Korea, fuelling suggestions that the Netherlands international will leave Allianz Arena this summer.
However, even with Yoro's injury, Man United need to move a centre-back on to bring in De Ligt, and Victor Lindelof is the player most likely to leave.
Providing that Lisandro Martinez returns to Carrington next week with no problems, he is likely to start the season in the middle of the back four, and the Argentina international could be joined by fit-again Harry Maguire for the early stages of the new campaign. body check tags ::
