Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has reportedly sustained a hamstring problem in his latest injury setback.

Shaw has spent the majority of 2024 on the sidelines, including a spell on the sidelines in the final few months of last season due to a hamstring injury.

The left-back managed to recover to feature in three matches in England's Euro 2024 campaign, before his start to the 2024-25 season was hampered by a calf issue.

As a result, Shaw had to wait until last month's Premier League clash against Ipswich Town to make his first appearance of the season.

The 29-year-old went on to feature as a substitute against Bodo/Glimt and Everton, putting himself in the frame for a potential starting spot against Arsenal.

Shaw suffers hamstring injury as fresh recovery timeline emerges

However, Shaw took to social media on Tuesday to reveal that he has suffered another injury setback, leaving him "absolutely devastated".

It was previously reported that Shaw's injury had sustained a new injury issue rather than a recurrence of a previous problem.

According to Manchester Evening News, Shaw has been sidelined with a new hamstring injury which could keep him out for 'several weeks'.

There was initially hope that he would be out for only a 'few weeks', but Man United are likely to adopt a cautious approach due to the player's previous history.

With that in mind, it seems likely that Shaw will miss the rest of 2024, which would see him sit out the busy Christmas schedule.

What does Shaw's injury mean for Amorim?

Shaw had come off the bench to feature as a centre-back in each of his three appearances under new Man United boss Ruben Amorim.

The Sporting Lisbon boss seemingly views Shaw as a candidate to play in his back three rather than a left wing-back.

Amorim has confirmed hat he is willing to remain patient with Shaw after being left impressed by his application following his arrival at Old Trafford.

"What I said to him, as a coach is, that since I am here, I saw him in the medical department," Amorim told Amazon Prime Video ahead of Wednesday's 2-0 defeat to Arsenal. "I saw him in the gym. I saw him losing weight. I saw him training.

"So he did everything right. Sometimes, when you have one or two injuries, it's really hard to recover. If he continues with this behaviour, doing everything he can, I will be here. All the staff will be here, as long as it takes.

"We believe a lot in him, he's so important for our team. For the future, I see in this team, Luke is a very important player for us."

However, Amorim will have to make do without Shaw's services for the time being, leaving him with Noussair Mazraoui, Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire as some of his options to play in a back three.

Amorim will hope that his side can bounce back from a disappointing trip to North London when they return to Old Trafford for Saturday's meeting with Nottingham Forest. body check tags ::
