Manchester United have confirmed that Phil Jones will be sidelined for three weeks after the defender suffered from 'mild thrombosis'.
The defender did not take part in the opening game of the season, where his side overcame Tottenham Hotspur courtesy of a Kyle Walker own goal.
Jones suffered from mild thrombosis according to the club's official Twitter page, which is the formation of clotting of the blood in a part of the circulatory system.
The former Blackburn Rovers defender is to miss league games against Aston Villa, Newcastle and Swansea City respectively.
The 23-year-old will also not take part in United's Champions League playoff against Club Brugge and could possibly miss his side's league game with Liverpool.
