Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has said that Marcus Rashford is a doubt for Saturday's Premier League clash with Bournemouth due to illness.

The England international was not involved against Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend due to a minor leg injury, but he returned to training on Wednesday and looked set to feature against the Cherries.

Ten Hag revealed during his press conference on Friday that the club's leading goalscorer had recovered from his injury, but he was now a doubt due to illness.

Raphael Varane, though, is available, with the Frenchman coming through the 2-0 win over Wolves unscathed after a period on the sidelines with an ankle issue.

The experienced defender was replaced in the latter stages of the clash with Julen Lopetegui's side but is in line to feature this weekend, while Scott McTominay could also return to the squad after a spell out.

"So a positive, Varane definitely available, Scott joined in training, when we find training will go well he will be in," Ten Hag told reporters when asked about the fitness of his squad.

"Rashy trained well the whole week but today he reported he is ill. We have to see how he recovers during the day and see tomorrow."

Rashford has been in excellent form for Man United during the 2022-23 campaign, scoring 29 goals and registering 11 assists in 53 appearances in all competitions.

The Red Devils will again definitely be without Lisandro Martinez, Donny van de Beek, Marcel Sabitzer and Tom Heaton this weekend, as they go in search of the win that would boost their top-four hopes.

Man United are currently fourth in the Premier League table, one point ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool with a game in hand on Jurgen Klopp's side.

"I think as far as I can see, I think it's really brilliant a club as Bournemouth, they are in the Premier League and three games before the end of the season they are definitely in the league next season as well. It's massive. You can see clear patterns, so well done," Ten Hag added when asked about the Cherries.

"When I see this project, first of all it's important to get in the Champions League, I don't think today at that standard, I look to the next game, Bournemouth, we have to win that game to get in the Champions League. Focus on the game, the games coming up, the first game is the most important."

Man United have been impressive at home in the Premier League this season, picking up 42 points from 17 matches, but they have found it more difficult on their travels, only winning seven of their 18 games.

Ten Hag's side will finish their league campaign with back-to-back home fixtures against Chelsea and Fulham before facing Manchester City in the FA Cup final at the start of June. body check tags ::
