Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has said that Harry Maguire will be missing for Sunday's Premier League clash with Liverpool, but Luke Shaw should be available for the contest.

Maguire limped off in the first half of Tuesday's Champions League clash with Bayern Munich due to a groin problem, and Ten Hag said during his press conference on Friday afternoon that the centre-back would not be available against Jurgen Klopp's side.

There was also concern over Shaw, who looked to have suffered a hamstring problem in the same match, but the left-back trained on Friday morning and is set to be available this weekend.

Marcus Rashford will also be available, having recovered from the illness that forced him to miss out against Bayern, but Anthony Martial, who has also been unwell, is still out.

Man United will also be without their captain Bruno Fernandes on Sunday, with the Portugal international picking up a milestone yellow card against Bournemouth last weekend.

"Harry [Maguire], he will not be available for the coming games," Ten Hag told reporters on Friday.

"But we don't think it is for the long term. Luke Shaw, he trained this morning. So we think he is available for Sunday. Marcus Rashford. He will [be back, but] Martial not.''

Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Casemiro, Mason Mount, Christian Eriksen and Amad Diallo are also still unavailable for selection due to injury problems.

Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho is still not involved with the first team following his falling-out with Ten Hag, so the England international will again miss out on Sunday afternoon.

The absence of Fernandes means that Ten Hag has a decision to make when it comes to his captain for the clash with Liverpool, and the Dutchman said that he has already chosen his skipper for the match.

"Yes I know [who my captain will be]," he said.

Rasmus Hojlund is again set to lead the line on Sunday, with the Denmark international looking for his first goal in the Premier League, and Ten Hag remains convinced that the 20-year-old, who managed five goals in the Champions League this season, will find his feet in England's top flight.

"As you've said, he's scored in the highest level in the Champions League with five goals. That's a huge performance from a young player and you see he has the potential. I'm sure he will get there and score in the Premier League. I see how he works in training," said the manager.

Man United are currently sixth in the Premier League table, boasting 27 points from their opening 16 matches, which has left them six points behind fourth-placed Manchester City. body check tags ::
