How Liverpool could line up against Manchester United

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Liverpool could line up for Sunday's Premier League clash with Manchester United.

Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Alexis Mac Allister will not be available for Sunday's Premier League clash with Manchester United at Anfield.

The Argentinian midfielder is recovering from a nasty cut to the knee sustained against Sheffield United this month, and he is one of six known absentees for the Reds, who also have Joel Matip (ACL), Stefan Bajcetic (calf), Diogo Jota (muscle), Andrew Robertson (shoulder) and Thiago Alcantara (hip) on the sidelines.

Klopp's men return to top-flight action on the back of a slightly disappointing 2-1 Europa League loss to Union SG, but the Reds boss avoided risking a few big names for that dead rubber, including first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

The Brazilian will return to guard the posts here, while Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold were also left off the plane in midweek but will reprise their usual roles in the backline on Sunday.

Kostas Tsimikas continues to deputise for the injured Robertson on the left-hand side of the backline, and despite scoring his first Reds goal against Union SG, Jarell Quansah will likely lose out to Ibrahima Konate for the final spot in the rearguard.

Mac Allister's absence will allow Wataru Endo to strut his stuff in the number six role, likely with Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai operating further up the field, where Mohamed Salah will also return after a midweek break.

The ex-Chelsea man netted his 200th Reds goal and 150th Premier League strike in last weekend's win over Crystal Palace, and his next mission is to build on the 12 goals he already boasts against the Red Devils; Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz will support him in his quest.

Liverpool possible starting lineup: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Szoboszlai, Endo, Gravenberch; Salah, Nunez, Diaz
