Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has admitted that he does not know whether Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez or Raphael Varane will be available for the clash with Nottingham Forest.
The Red Devils were back in competitive action on Wednesday evening, recording a 2-0 victory over Burnley in the EFL Cup to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition.
Maguire missed the game with the Clarets through illness, while Martinez or Varane were both absent due to their involvement in the World Cup final.
Martinez and Varane are due back at Carrington on Monday, 24 hours before the Premier League contest with Forest at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag is unsure whether Maguire will recover from illness in time for the game with Steve Cooper's side, while he could not offer any guarantees over Martinez or Varane.
"I can't answer because Harry is sick. I don't know how that develops. We have to wait. Maybe the coming hours, maybe the coming days, and then we will see if he is available for Forest," said Ten Hag.
"I can't answer that question now (will Martinez be back against Forest). He is still celebrating now in Buenos Aires now, going around in the touring car! Going around in Buenos Aires and I can understand it, it is very emotional when you achieve this World Cup success in your country.
"It is magnificent, it is the highest that you can achieve [in football]. Licha also has to understand that on December 27, the Premier League is back!
"He [Varane] is disappointed, as anybody would be after losing the World Cup final. I think he can also be proud [to have played] again in the final, with all that he has achieved in his football career.
"It is a massive performance as a team, and a player like Rapha, when you win so many trophies. Even though he finished second, it is a massive achievement because the level of the nation is so high. They came into the final and, even in the final, they were very close."
Diogo Dalot was missing against Burnley due to a problem that he picked up while representing Portugal in their World Cup quarter-final with Morocco.
The right-back remains a doubt for this match, while Jadon Sancho is again likely to miss out, with the attacker currently undergoing a personal training programme.
