Manchester United interim head coach Ralf Rangnick has said that Cristiano Ronaldo is missing against Manchester City this afternoon due to a hip problem.
The Portugal international was a notable absentee when the Man United squad assembled on Saturday evening, and he is not involved for the Red Devils in the Manchester derby.
Speaking ahead of kickoff, Rangnick told MUTV that Ronaldo has an injured hip flexor, which has forced him to miss the contest at the Etihad Stadium.
The 37-year-old is Man United's leading goalscorer this season with 15 in 30 matches in all competitions, although he has only netted once in the Premier League since the end of December.
Ronaldo missed two games against Aston Villa in January with a hip problem, and it is believed to be the same issue that has forced him to sit out the Manchester derby.
Edinson Cavani has also not made the squad for Sunday's match, with the Uruguay international ruling himself out despite returning to training in the latter stages of last week after recovering from a groin issue. body check tags ::
