Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag paid tribute to Antony's performance in Saturday's 1-1 draw with relegation-threatened Burnley at Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford again missed out for the Red Devils through injury, which opened the door for Antony to keep his spot, despite suggestions that Amad Diallo would come into the first XI.

Antony sent Man United 1-0 ahead in the 79th minute of the clash with Vincent Kompany's side, who secured a point at Old Trafford courtesy of a 87th-minute penalty from Zeki Amdouni.

The goal was the Brazil international's first in the Premier League this season and just his third in all competitions, with his performances heavily criticised throughout the campaign.

There remains speculation surrounding his future, with the 24-year-old potentially leaving the Red Devils this summer, but his contribution against Burnley has been heavily praised by his manager.

Erik ten Hag pleased with Antony performance vs. Burnley

"He was a threat all through. It wasn't a surprise he scored a goal as he also had more chances before that to score a goal. Two or three times, with his runs and good movements in the box. He was there and we are pleased with his performance today," Ten Hag told reporters.

However, the Man United head coach admitted that the result against the Clarets had left him "disappointed", with the team giving up more points late on.

"Of course, we are disappointed. If, over a long period in the game, when you control and dominate the game, when you create loads of chances and put yourself in a winning position but then give it away in the end," he added after the clash with the Clarets.

"Ours was a strong start to the game but, in the second part of the first half, we lost control. We came back into the game and had good chances as well but Andre [Onana] saved us a couple of times.

"The second half again was all ours, with loads of chances, but you could say, by the end of it, we gave the game away. It's very frustrating. It shouldn't happen.

Erik ten Hag rues more dropped points

"Again, we put ourselves in a winning position, the most difficult [thing] in football, and, in many phases of the game, we did very good. Then, in the end, we have to take three points and keep a clean sheet. But we gave it away. It's very frustrating.

"It is bad luck. We are not lucky with the refereeing over the last weeks. So many penalties we've conceded. This one was justified but, on the other hand, I've seen two or three penalty situations.

"One is 100% a penalty. [Alejandro] Garnacho, I think he was hit and then the last handball is 100% a penalty. If it makes a penalty against Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the [Emirates FA Cup] semi-final, it makes that a penalty.

"It's really inconsistent. In the last couple of weeks, we gave penalties away or concede penalties and some were very debatable. Of course, we have to look in the mirror. We make a mistake for the 1-1. We're very frustrated by ourselves. Also with the referee as well but, first, we do have to look in the mirror."

Man United are currently sixth in the Premier League table, six points behind fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who still have a game in hand on the Red Devils. body check tags ::
