Al-Nassr 'make huge offer for Cristiano Ronaldo'

Saudi Arabian giants Al-Nassr reportedly made a lucrative €200m (£172.4m) offer to Cristiano Ronaldo following his exit from Manchester United.

Saudi Arabian giants Al-Nassr have reportedly tabled a lucrative offer for five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 37-year-old is officially a free agent after his contract with Manchester United was terminated by mutual consent last month, and he has been persistently linked with a move to the Middle East.

Ronaldo made a sensational return to Old Trafford in the summer of 2021, scoring 18 goals in his first season back, but Man United could only finish sixth in the Premier League.

The Portugal international was largely consigned to the bench under Erik ten Hag in the first half of the 2022-23 season, though, and he blasted the club in an explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

Ronaldo admitted that he did not possess any respect for Ten Hag and also voiced his criticism of the Glazer Family, leading to his second exit from the Red Devils.

Al-Nassr were rumoured to have been readying a mammoth offer to bring Ronaldo to Saudi Arabia, and BBC Sport now claims that the Middle Eastern club have made their approach.

The report claims that Ronaldo could earn a mammoth €200m (£172.4m) per year should he accept the proposal, but he will not make any decisions on his future until after the World Cup.

The former Juventus and Real Madrid man was contracted to Man United at the end of the summer transfer window, and as a result any transfer he makes over the winter cannot be made official until January 1, despite his status as a free agent.

However, Ronaldo is believed to be keen to remain in Europe and continue to compete in the Champions League, although his options on the continent are somewhat limited.

Chelsea and Sporting Lisbon are believed to be Ronaldo's two realistic destinations should he stay in Europe, and Morgan has claimed that the attacker is still determined to play in the Champions League again.

"He thinks that if he does well at this World Cup, he'll get what he really wants, which is a club in the Champions League that extends his record and his legacy," Morgan told The Telegraph.

"It's not about money at this stage of his career. It comes down to a burning desire to play football at the highest level, to break records and win trophies. And he has done that in more countries than any other player in history."

Ronaldo scored once in Portugal's three World Cup group matches, becoming the first man in history to net in five separate World Cups as A Selecao qualified for the last 16 as group winners.

Fernando Santos's side will take on Switzerland in Tuesday's last-16 clash at Lusail Iconic Stadium, where Ronaldo will be out to end a barren streak of failures in knockout games.

The veteran attacker is yet to find the back of the net in the World Cup knockout rounds, despite scoring eight goals in group matches since his tournament debut in 2006. body check tags ::
