Respected Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague has suggested that swapping Manchester United for Paris Saint-Germain is part of Jose Mourinho's 'managerial journey'.
The 54-year-old revealed at the weekend that he does not intend to see out his career at Old Trafford, instead wanting to experience a new challenge elsewhere.
Mourinho is reportedly holding off putting pen to paper on a new contract at United, meaning that as things stand he will depart at the end of next season.
According to Balague, the two-time Champions League winner could be tempted to leave the Red Devils if the opportunity to manage Ligue 1 giants PSG arises.
"What message is he looking to send [with his recent comments]? That he will end up at PSG. I think it was always part of his journey," he told Sky Sports News.
"He would go to a team that is superior in the French league but still has not shown - let's see what happens this season - that they have the level to win the Champions League.
"We know Jose is capable of making that kind of jump if given the team. The squad is there to challenge for the next few years but those words also coincide with wanting a new contract so let's wait and see."
Mourinho won two trophies during his maiden campaign at United and has started this season in style, with the Red Devils winning nine and drawing two of their last 11 games.
