West Bromwich Albion head coach Steve Clarke has insisted that Manchester United would have done their homework before they appointed David Moyes as their new manager.
Moyes has faced criticism with United struggling to find their best form during the opening weeks of the season, but Clarke believes that his fellow countryman deserves his chance to succeed at Old Trafford.
The 50-year-old told the Express & Star: "They looked around the available managers that they thought would come in and do the job at their club and they picked David, which is a great accolade and honour for him.
"His work over the last 10 or 11 years at Everton put him in a position where he deserved to be considered."
Clarke takes his side to Manchester on Saturday with the Baggies currently in 14th position in the Premier League table.
