Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has congratulated Erik ten Hag on his appointment as Manchester United manager and believes the Red Devils will have a "top class manager" at the helm next season.
Ten Hag was officially announced as United's new head coach on Thursday and will leave his post at Ajax to succeed interim boss Ralf Rangnick at the end of the season.
Guardiola has previously worked with Ten Hag at German giants Bayern Munich between 2013 and 2015, when the former recruited the latter to coach for the club's reserve team.
Speaking at his press conference ahead of City's Premier League clash with Watford on Saturday, Guardiola has wished Ten Hag "all the best" ahead of next season, albeit while in charge of the Citizens' noisy neighbours.
"Watch his Ajax team and you see his qualities," the Spaniard told reporters on Friday. "Congratulations to Erik and wish him all the best. A top class manager, his teams are a joy to watch at a team like Ajax."
Ten Hag, who has won two Eredivisie titles, two Dutch Cups and one Dutch Super Cup in charge of Ajax, has put pen to paper on a three-year deal at United until June 2025, with the option for an additional 12 months. body check tags ::
