Ander Herrera: Manchester United supporters are "suffering too much"

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera admits that their performance levels must improve if the Red Devils are to finish inside the Premier League's top four.

Ander Herrera has urged his Manchester United teammates to up their game in order to end the "suffering" of the club's supporters.

The Red Devils produced another underwhelming display last night as they eventually overcame Newcastle United 1-0 at St James' Park, courtesy of Ashley Young's strike in the final minute of the game.

That made it just two defeats in their last 22 outings in all competitions, although a slow style of play adopted under the tenure of Louis van Gaal has led to criticism from those in the stands.

Speaking after his side's slender win on Tyneside, Herrera told MUTV: "I think we deserved to win. We deserved to score before and we were a little bit disappointed at half time because we should have been winning.

"We created chances, we kept the ball and we didn't give a lot of chances away - I think only one in the first half, in the last minute. But now we are very happy.

"When you win in the last minute, you are very happy. But I think we have to improve, we have to score earlier because our fans are suffering too much."

United are currently fourth in the Premier League table, sitting two points above Liverpool who are closing in on the final Champions League berth.
