Former Blackpool boss Ian Holloway has claimed that Manchester United should have taken a chance on signing Charlie Austin from Queens Park Rangers this month.
Austin, who scored 18 Premier League goals for QPR last season, joined Southampton for just £4m last week and scored the winner as his new club beat Man United 1-0 in the league at the weekend.
Holloway has blasted the Red Devils for not taking a punt on the Englishman, claiming that he is "not fashionable enough" to be playing for one of the so-called bigger clubs.
"Manchester United can't score for toffee. Why didn't they go in for him? I'll tell you why. Austin's not a fashionable signing. For some reason, Austin doesn't fit the criteria of one of the big wigs to buy him," Holloway told Sky Sports News.
"Some players are deemed not fashionable enough to play for certain clubs. It makes me sick. Well done to Ronald Koeman for looking through all that nonsense."
Austin has been backed to win a place in the England squad this year by his new boss Koeman.
