Sports Mole takes a closer look at Jesse Lingard following his two goals for Manchester United this afternoon.

So far this summer, Manchester United have been linked with a whole host of players. Cesc Fabregas, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale are among the names that are said to be of interest to the Premier League champions.

However, during the ongoing pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia, it has been two academy players who have caught the eye.

First up in Thailand last week it was Adnan Januazj, while today's performance from Jesse Lingard in the 5-1 victory over the A-League All Stars earned him rave reviews.

The 20-year-old scored the opening goal of the match (and the first of David Moyes's tenure) with a composed finish, before later going on to power in his second and United's third into the top corner of the net.

He joined United in 2009 and quickly established himself within United's academy side. The next season he was part of the United squad that won the FA Youth Cup, scoring in the opening legs of both the semi-final and the final.

"A clever and assured finisher, he is capable of mixing the spectacular finish with clinical, well-placed shots, he causes problems for defenders with his direct running," is how he has been described on the club's official website.

He showed those attributes in Sydney earlier today as he linked up positively with first Danny Welbeck and then Robin van Persie - both of whom had been given the lone centre-forward's role.

Recent reports had suggested that he could be due a loan spell during the upcoming campaign, but with a few more displays on tour to match the one that he gave this afternoon, he may force Moyes to reconsider his plans.
