Newcastle United defender Daryl Janmaat has backed Louis van Gaal to enjoy a successful tenure at Manchester United.
Janmaat was part of the Netherlands squad that finished third at the 2014 World Cup under the guidance of Van Gaal.
The experienced manager has faced some criticism in the early part of his United career, but Janmaat believes that his former national team coach will ultimately get things right.
"I think they have a great team, with some fantastic players," Janmaat told the Shields Gazette.
"Also, [Van Gaal] is fantastic. He just needs a little bit of time. He is still fairly new there, and once he gets that time, I am sure he will win prizes for Manchester United."
Janmaat's Newcastle welcome Man United to St James' Park in the Premier League on Wednesday.
