Phil Jones: 'Manchester United comfortable changing formations'

Manchester United are "more than capable of playing" either 4-4-2 or 3-5-2, according to centre-back Phil Jones.

Phil Jones has insisted that the Manchester United squad have fully adapted to the two formations that have been favoured by manager Louis van Gaal this season.

The Dutch boss, who took charge of the Red Devils in the summer, has swapped between 4-4-2 and 3-5-2 strategies in recent months.

However, despite criticism surrounding their performances - particularly where the 3-5-2 setup is concerned - Jones believes that the players are now "more than capable of playing both formations".

"The demands are high, especially in training, but it's what we needed and I think everyone has responded really well to it," the centre-back told United Review.

"Everyone's training really well, there's a buzz about the place and hopefully, in the back end of the season now, we can finish strongly.

"Whichever system we play with, we know what we've got to do in those positions. Everyone's fully aware of that and I think we're more than capable of playing both formations now, and doing it comfortably."

Ahead of tomorrow's home clash against Southampton, United are third in the Premier League.
